Dr.Annie Besant founded the Young Men’s Indian Association (YMIA) in 1914 in Chennai, India to provide a political gymnasium as it were, to equip the youth with a strong body, an informed mind and a noble character to inherit and imbibe the country’s glorious tradition and to take their rightful place as leaders of the future.

The USI is a unique institution with unequalled expertise in the field of national security and matters pertaining to defence services. It has built an outstanding reputation over the last 140 years. It is an autonomous institution with a membership exceeding 13000. The USI has on-going bilateral dialogues with similar institutes in many countries.

IDSA was established as a registered society in New Delhi on November 11, 1965. Its mission was to provide objective assessments of issues relating to national and international security. Over the last forty-plus years, IDSA has played a crucial role in shaping India’s foreign and security policies, including with respect to nuclear weapons, military expenditure, and conventional and non-conventional threats to India

The Indian Institute of Public Administration, established as an autonomous body under the Registration of Societies Act, was inaugurated on March, 29,1954 by Shri Jawaharlal Nehru who was the first President of the Society. Its establishment was an outcome of a survey of public administration in the country carried out in 1953 by Dean Paul H. Appleby, a Consultant with the Ford Foundation, at the invitation by the Government of India. The basic purpose of establishing this Institute was to undertake such academic activities as would enhance the leadership qualities and managerial capabilities of the executives in the government and other public service organizations.

The activities of the Institute are organized in four inter-related areas of Research, Training, Advisory Services and Dissemination of Information. While the Institute undertakes research studies on substantive issues of its own initiative, it conducts research in specific areas of practical importance, which are normally sponsored by the Government and national / international organizations. It also offers consultancy services in operational areas to the Government and public sector undertakings.

NETWORK AND COLLABORATION

With a membership over 10,000 including about 100 overseas, the IIPA has a nation-wide network of 19 regional branches and 45 local branches, which provide exchange of ideas on current trends and practices in public administration to public servants, academics and students.

The Bangalore International Centre (BIC) started in November 2005 is a premier non-profit organization that is a hub of cultural and intellectual activities in Bangalore. This has been modelled on the lines of the India International Centre and India Habitat centre in Delhi. BIC has been catalysed by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and currently shares its premises with TERI in Domlur, Bangalore.

The BIC platform fosters intellectual activity, cultural enterprise and innovation. Quality programs including talks, performances, films, book launches on varied subjects have been held since its inception, that have been receiving accolades from audiences and media. His Excellency, the Governor of Karnataka is the Patron of the Centre.
